Our daughter loves real life pretend play and we love to foster that interest. We tried taking her to a strip mall play place and she was obsessed with the play kitchen there. She promptly got sick after visiting this play place, but her happiness in that little play kitchen inspired us to get her one for her playroom (also selfishly so we didn't have to go back to the play place). This was one of the best decisions we could have made for her little playroom. Let's talk about why:

The Details

Our Play Kitchen is by Kid Kraft, and has three compartments to it: the cabinet, the oven, and the fridge. It also has a stove, a little sink with a fake faucet, a microwave and a shelf. There's a lot of doors to open and close, and having primary colors, there's a lot to look at. It's visually loud and I did entertain painting it for a hot minute, but then I decided against it. Our daughter loves it as is and at this point, we have just embraced the visually loud toys. Besides, they say primary colors are good for brain development so... it is what it is.

Our playroom is not the biggest but we managed to find this little corner to put the play kitchen in, and it works nicely with just a little bit of overhang. Again, just embracing when things aren't the most aesthetically pleasing or not the perfect fit. It's ok sometimes.

Talking about why we love this play kitchen, it's mainly because our daughter loves it. It provides a good source of entertainment for her. There are so many doors to open and items to bang around. We can play with it with her or let her explore through independent play.

We keep all of her play food in the "fridge", and each morning she goes over to the fridge, opens the door, and sits there going through each food item. It's great to watch her explore in a productive way. Our playroom is right off of our kitchen, and we will often "cook" alongside her. She isn't tall enough to reach the upper cabinet or the microwave yet, but we're excited to watch her imagination and creativity grow as she does. There's also a little telephone on the wall reminiscent of the cordless home phones we had growing up, so that's a nice little touch.

If you're looking to entertain your little ones either through interactive play or independent play, then a play kitchen deserves a spot in your playroom.
