Peace of Mind Mattress

Why the Newton Baby Crib Mattress is worth the purchase to protect your little one and keep your mind at ease.

BABY

Baby sleep and sleep rules are one of the scariest topics to contemplate as a new parent, and just as a parent in general. The rules and guidelines have changed over time and the guidelines and products of our parents' days are vastly different from the guidelines and products of our current days. So, when we found a product that boasted of breathability, it gave us comfort knowing that if our daughter flipped over from "back is best" to her stomach in the middle of the night, she wouldn't suffocate (also shout out to our Nanit Breathing Band for the added peace of mind). Enter the Newton Baby Crib Mattress, let's get into it.

This thing looks like a gigantic wad of dried ramen noodles when you really strip it down to its core but man is this a great invention. The wad of noodles is covered by a viscose inner cover, and then a waterproof cover, and then a sheet, all products you can purchase that are made by Newton Baby and also boast breathability. This was a top priority item for us when we were preparing our registry and nesting.

After having been through the first year with this mattress, I can say that it is well worth the money. The whole package (mattress, inner cover, waterproof mattress pad) runs about $299 without any sales, but the peace of mind is priceless. I made the decision to also get their crib sheets, which are made of organic cotton but feel like a softer version of muslin. If you're comfortable with it, you can always shop for the bundle secondhand. The wad of noodles is very easy to disinfect, and if simply washing the pad and waterproof cover would not be enough, you could always just purchase those items new.

The mattress and all of its parts are super easy to wash. The wad of noodles can be sprayed down right in your shower and nothing will absorb into it because it's got holes in it (I'm sure there's a more scientific reason, but that's the gist). The two pads and sheets are washable and can go in the dryer, making it possible to have the bed remade after a load of wash.

My daughter might be a unicorn, but her sleep has always been great. She started sleeping through the night at about 3 months. While I attribute that to a lot of things (my husband, for one), I think the mattress and her comfort on it play a big part.

If you're thinking about it, I would encourage you to go for it.

The wad of noodles inner mattress, viscose cover, and waterproof mattress pad all come together. The crib sheets have to be purchased separately.
