Books on Repeat in our Household

The books our 15 month old is currently obsessed with

Our daughter is not quite a baby but also not quite a toddler yet. She's right at that age where she loves to look at books and loves for us to read them to her, but she also wants to turn all of the pages immediately and start over again. She looks at her books upside down and "reads" (babbles) to herself. She's so obsessed with books that they have become her "comfort item" along with her binkies. This is a love we want to encourage, so let's talk about what books are on repeat in our household:

The Details

Starting off strong with the Current Stars of the Show: the two bedtime books that are read in specific order and expected each night. Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans and Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle.

Our daughter looooves these books, and my husband has read them to her so many times that he has the stories memorized. If it wasn't for wanting to look at the pictures, he would just recite the stories for her. These two books are a solid part of the bedtime routine and are such classics, I don't foresee them going anywhere any time soon.

Next up are the Alphabet and Counting Books of my daughter's little library. These are well loved because there's A LOT to look at and many pages to flip through.

We especially love A is for Awesome! 23 Iconic Women Who Changed The World, because who wouldn't want to encourage their daughter to be everything and anything they want to be?

Aside from this, we find the other books to be educational and fun, even though she's not fully comprehending what she is "reading" just yet.

Next up are the Interactive Books. These get daily use, especially my daughter's go-to, Peekaboo Dog. We actually have a few Peekaboo books by Camilla Reid, and intend to get more come Christmas. My daughter loves these Peekaboo books so much that one went to daycare as her "lovey" comfort item. She literally snuggles with it.

Anything with sliders or flaps my daughter goes nuts for, and can be easily and happily entertained for a solid chunk of time just looking through it.

My daughter's library also celebrates Christmas all year round, so the Christmas books don't get put away and you'll notice I haven't separated them into their own category for that reason.

Our daughter loooooves animals with a passion. Before she said her first word, she was making animal sounds. She especially loves dogs and horses, but will also imitate cows and monkeys. We ask her "what does a doggy say?" and she pants. It is heart-melting.

Needless to say she loves her animal books. Anything about or including animals, she will stare at and study for the longest time. These are the animal books in her little library:

Finally, we have books that deserve an Honorable Mention, aka books that are random and don't really have their own category but should be talked about.

Of these, we have the Baby Einstein - My First Library Board Book Set, which comes with 12 mini books. My daughter lost her marbles over these books starting at about 6 months old. She still loves them to this day. Unfortunately, we don't have the box it comes in anymore and the books are spread out between our car, her room, her crib, her diaper bag, her playroom... you get the picture. We take these everywhere and she still loves to "read" them.

Another favorite is The Paper Bag Princess, a story about a very brave little girl who didn't need a prince for her happily ever after. Again, just love encouraging our daughter to be strong and independent. It's a classic and a great message.
